Municipal Water and Wastewater
Systems

The results of this survey on public/private partnerships for
water and wastewater services are derived from the responses of
261 cities, providing water and wastewater services to over 40
million people. These cities are served by 560 facilities
(275 water; 285 wastewater).
Of the cities responding to this survey:
Of the cities that do not currently have a public/private
partnership for water services, 14% are considering implementing
a partnership arrangement.
Of the cities that do not currently have a public/private
partnership for wastewater services, 11 % are considering
implementing a partnership arrangement.
Of the cities which currently have a public/private partnership,
the most common water services being provided by the private
sector are:

Meter
Reading -- 33%
Billing and
Collection -- 31 %
Distribution
System O&M -- 25 %
Consumer/Customer
Education -- 21 %
Biosolids
Management -- 20%
