• Five-Year, $2.3 Million Operations Contract Awarded to Southwest Water (Last updated 9:05 AM ET January 18)

    WEST COVINA, Calif. (BUSINESS WIRE) - Southwest Water Co.  has secured a five-year, $2.3 million contract to operate and maintain the water and wastewater utility systems for Discovery Bay, a community service district located 25 miles east of Oakland, Calif.

    Starting Feb. 1, 1999, Southwest Water's subsidiary, ECO Resources Inc., will provide water production, water distribution, sewage collection, sewage treatment and customer service for Discovery Bay.

    Southwest Water President Anton C. Garnier said: "We look forward to serving the 8,000 residents of Discovery Bay. Since plans for expansion of the community are underway, we believe that this contract has significant growth potential."

    Southwest Water operates and manages water supply and wastewater treatment systems. Some of the systems are owned by the company and are regulated public utilities, while the remainder, owned by cities, utility districts and private companies, are operated and managed under contract. More than 40 communities depend on the company for high-quality water and wastewater services.
