- DIRECTIONS: CT Fire Academy is located off Exit 40 (Route
20, Bradley Connector) of Interstate 91. Follow Rt. 20 west 1.7 miles to the exit for Rt.
75. Turn right off the exit onto Rt. 75 North and follow 2.9 miles. Turn left onto North
Perimeter Road (see sign for the CT Fire Academy and the NE Air Museum). Continue 1.4
miles to the Academy, which is on your right.

A Special Congratulations
Arthur Enderle, Windsor Locks WPCF, has been awarded the
NEWEA Operator of the Year award.
Simon Mobarak, DEP, has been posthumously honored by
the CWPAA with the Alfred Peloquin Award.
The staff at the Danbury Wastewater Treatment Plant
has won the NEWEA O&M Excellence Award.
- Matt Isles, Chief Operator, received the NEWEA Operations and Maintenance Excellence
Award. It is presented to the staff of a publicly owned wastewater treatment plant for its
commitment to clean water through continued permit compliance, outstanding operations and
maintenance and effective financial management and ongoing operator training.

December 1997 CWPAA Board Meeting: Minutes
Following items were discussed:
- NPDES Task Force John Hall, status: Letters need to go out to all
plants and higher-ups in towns (political side) to explain what is happening and needs to
be done in dealing with new permit limits;
- CL&P Getting a group together to work with Gail Spence of
CL&P to find out what issues are important to WPCFs and what training is available
through CL&P to help plants in power monitoring, energy conservation, etc.
- Nominations of officers:

- Janet Marineau - Secretary,
- Arnold Bevins - Treasurer,
- Board Members: Mike Bisi, David Carfo, Steve Demetri, Glenn LaBrecque, Terry Smith,
Christian Bratina, Roy Fredricksen, Curly Richard, John DeGioia (new member).
- Mike suggested we get together with the Connecticut Fire Academy in Windsor Locks to
set-up safety training course for the operators. A January 1998 meeting is planned.
- A tour of the Fairfield WPCF is still trying to be set up for the new
year; Larry Chertoff, Water Industry Council, spoke to the association about becoming a
part of the Water Industry Council web site. Everyone felt this was a great idea and to
proceed. Jan will get all the information for the web site to Larry every month. The Web
site address will be: http://WaterIndustry.org/CWPAA.htm.
- Next meeting date at January 8, 1998 (snow date Jan. 9, 1998).

January 1998 CWPAA Board Meeting: Minutes
- The January CWPAA board meeting was held at the Connecticut Fire Academy in Windsor
Locks, Connecticut. The main purpose of the meeting was to speak with Ron Keene,
coordinator of the training program, to see what is available and how the association can
work with the academy to develop safety training program geared to wastewater operators.
Ron gave the members a tour of the facility.
- Roy Fredrickson will work with Ron in developing a training program. He is also
scheduled to be at hand for the March meeting. The Board felt that there should be a
meeting with OSHA geared to supervisors on the training needed to keep in compliance. The
tentative date is March 12, or 19. No date has been set for the April Trade show.

Dues for the fiscal year 1997-1998 are due now and payable immediately.
If you haven't sent in your membership fee, yet, please do it now. Remember, individual
membership is $15.00 and corporate membership is $35.00. If you need an invoice, to submit
