New Employees
The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986(IRCA) states that
employers must verify that any new employee and any employees hire after November 6, 1986
are eligible to work in the United States. The law requires that you as an employer comply
with the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) by having a Form I-9 completed by
all new employees and any current employees with a date of hire after November 6, 1986. If
you are a CT employer and have any questions you can obtain additional information by

SAFETY CORNER Recommendation from the safety editor: All superintendents should consider
assigning a person to be in charge of safety at your facility. This will help you by
freeing up your time and assuring that the job gets done. Benefits include that one person
will be responsible for the work being done. It will give you the ability to have a second
person to bounce ideas off of. Remember that you are still responsible for the safety at
your plant. Things that you could have them do range from: check first aid kits, flushing
emergency showers and eye washes, inspecting fire extinguishers, organizing MSDS, planning
safety meetings, training sessions, and etc.
