Water Industry Council

This is a dynamic time for the water industry.
Federal regulations, legislative initiatives and
improvements in technology have combined
to create a business environment in which
dramatic steps can be taken to preserve
and protect the public water supply.

The Water Industry Council, representing
the leading private water and wastewater
service providers in North America, is
filling an urgent public need. By operating
nationally on a state and local level, WIC
brings together public needs and private
suppliers in a partnership to optimize
delivery of essential water and wastewater
services. Through education and mutual
understanding, WIC serves as a resource
for communities in making informed
decisions on water and wastewater needs.

Our Goals...
WIC facilitates private sector participation
with communities in providing water and wastewater
services through:

· Commitment to long-term community
    relationships by encouraging consistent,
    enduring, high-quality service

· Educating communities on key issues and
    practices related to public-private partnerships

· Facilitating fair competition

· Easing the transition for decision makers,
    employees and communities

· Building trust between the public and private sectors

Our Services...

What We Do For Municipalities

· Freedom To Choose: Working with cities, counties and
authorities, WIG crafts legislation that allows local elected
officials the right to choose their community’s type of water
and wastewater system—be it municipally owned and operated,
a long term contract operation or a competitive proposal to
design, finance, construct, maintain and operate facilities.

· Contract Protocol: WIC provides municipalities with
industry- wide accepted terms and conditions for Requests
For Qualification and Proposals, and service & contract
agreement language that assures fair, open and broad competition.

· Grant and Bond Funds: WIC works with state and
federal industry government and advocacy associations
to press for greater availability of grant funds and bond issue
proceeds for water and wastewater infrastructure improvements.

What We Do For Labor

· National Regulations: WIC lobbies to effect national regulations
allowing for transition of employee benefits when switching between
    public and private sector employment.

· Public-Private Partnering: WIG produces conferences and
seminars bringing together government leaders, organized labor,
public and private employees and water industry representatives
to develop a productive dialog on the appropriate role of each in
    public-private partnerships.

· Website Hosting: WIC develops and maintains free, unrestricted
    websites for government employee associations.

· Career Opportunities: WIG provides free access to lob listings
    on our website.

What We Do For Members

· Meet The Decision Makers: WIC arranges for our members
to meet with elected and appointed state and local government
officials on issues ranging from national policy to individual projects.

· Meet The Buyers: Through WIC organized conferences and
receptions, members can meet with and present their services to
other WIG members, municipalities and influential advocacy groups.

· Website Resource Clearinghouse: WIC provides
a data bank of current and proposed projects; summaries
and text of proposed government policies; listings of industry
news, issues and achievements; plus a presentation of
member services for review by public and private consumers.

· Represent The Industry To Press and Public:
WIC presents the industry’s interests to lawmakers
and the public through written and oral commentary
    press releases and interviews.
